Water fasting is just one of a number of methods of purging that have been discovered over the last 25 years. If you’re interested in learning more about these, or just want some inspiration, try reading a few of our posts on The 7 Tips Every Bodybuilder Should Know about Water Fasting and What to Eat Before and After a Water Fasting Challenge.
When a bodybuilder has the opportunity to practice water fasting and other methods of purging, they should try to incorporate them into their routine as part of their regular training sessions. Here’s a quick list of tips from Bodybuilding.com that you definitely don’t need to go completely overboard on at this point:
Use two water bottles – The first is a standard bottle of water (around 20 gallons or 120 liters in a 6-liter bottle), which should last you at least 30 days. If you’re in a pinch, you can always try your bottle of Mountain Dew (it is pretty effective, at least for me)
A thermos flask – I’m a big fan of these, but I’m very partial to only owning one and having two as backup
The second bottles are usually smaller and lighter, but still keep you hydrated
Take care of things – Get the stuff you need, such as water, a towel, and sometimes even a shower
Don’t be stingy! You should be replenishing your glycogen stores every five days and drinking about five tablespoons of water/day
Do your own research, if you can
And if you’re having trouble with the water fast – read our article on why you shouldn’t do it, and if it happens, learn how to get the most benefit out of that experiment and how to avoid a similar problem down the line.
I’d love to hear what your experience with water fasting has been. Leave some comments below and share what you’re using while doing water fasting if you’re willing. In the meantime, you can check out my free guide on how to water fast at home, here.
You can buy a 3-day water fast at your local grocery store, or I can even put it together for you and include an app to help you track and record your steps while fasting.
