If you want a simple one for your first violin, then you probably won’t need to do another instrument. However, we think it is pretty good to spend between €2,000 and €3,000 for the cost of your own instrument. This is also the amount you can afford to spend on a second. The main point is that these two instruments should be the best possible one, so for more details on which instruments are best see our previous section on buying a violin without a teacher.
When a beginner purchases her first violin and she then goes on to take lessons she should spend as much money as she can. On average, a beginner spends around €900 for a lesson. A lesson can be either solo or in three days. If you want to save money but can’t afford to spend €900 on a lesson, a good idea is to buy a lesson online and take it once in the beginning of your lesson. This can save you a lot of money during the lesson, as you can have a lesson on violin and not take it for 3 weeks, which saves you money in the long run.
You should also start investing as soon as you become an adult. Investing gives you the freedom to set your own budget and it gives you the flexibility as there’s not much pressure on you if you fall behind or lose money.
It also gives you the opportunity to set up a monthly budget.
What instruments do I need for my first violin?
The first piece of advice from our beginners guide is to not buy cheap instruments as this is a good way to not make as much money with one first violin as you can with one cheap instrument. You shouldn’t buy any instruments that cost more than €15,000 for a lesson. The reason for this is that you don’t take lessons very much. You simply need to have a decent quality instrument that you will use for your school lessons before you invest more money in it.
If you can afford to, you should spend €400 – €500 for your first instruments. A good instrument should be a beautiful instrument. There are a number of very good violins out there that are worth much more than €300, you can check our list of violins on our list of top violins list below. We recommend you to buy a violin with a comfortable body, as violins that have an expensive frame are unlikely to get you anywhere, or will sound badly with violins with softer bodies.
